Korean Thread lift

Korean Thread lift

Korean Thread Lift is the treatment, originating from Korea and popular in Thailand, that uses threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO) to lift and tighten facial skin. The Korean thread is very small and not too long. The length of each thread varies from 3 to 9 centimeters. Therefore, for both face and neck lifts, up to 100 or 150 threads need to be used.

Thread Material

The most common material used for lifting thread is Polydioxanone (PDO) – an absorbable thread used for surgical wound closure that rarely causes side effects or skin irritation, and dissolves naturally within 6-8 months.

Korean Thread Lift Procedure

A number of threads (number, size, and type of thread to be determined by the doctor, based on each patient’s facial profile) will be inserted into the fat layer under the skin in a mesh pattern, to stimulate inflammation in the treated area that causes the formation of new blood vessels. This consequently leads to the stimulation of cells responsible for creating collagen fibers, to produce new collagen around the threads.

Korean Thread Lift Results

The treated area is tightened and lifted, with improved skin elasticity and firmness, plus a more defined facial contour. This treatment also helps stimulate the production of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin.

Pre-Treatment Checklist

  • Avoid taking certain supplements (such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E) and medicines (such as paracetamol) for at least 1 week prior to the Korean Thread Lift treatment, to prevent easy bleeding and the risk of bruising.
  • Refrain from doing other treatments (such as Thermage and Ulthera) for 1-2 weeks prior to the Korean Thread Lift treatment. The thread lift and other treatments, however, can be performed on the same day.
  • Get dental work done before the treatment, or wait 1 month after the treatment. Any prolonged opening of the mouth may cause displacement of the threads.

Post-Treatment Checklist

  • Don’t apply make-up for 24 hours following the thread lift treatment.
  • Don’t undergo facial massage with neither hands nor a massaging tool.
  • Be gentle; don’t massage or rub the face, as it may adversely impact expected results of the thread lift.
  • Don’t make excessive facial movements – including laughing, yawning, and wide mouth opening – as it may cause displacement of the threads.
  • In some cases, dimples may appear 1-2 days after the treatment, but will gradually disappear within 5-7 days.
